The Society in the United States sees itself as having an increasing role in removing the causes of injustice, as well as in responding to its effects. The Society assess government plans, pointing out the impact that proposed legislation might have on those in poverty. We do this in close consultation with other Catholic and Christian groups. While avoiding partisan politics, we speak on behalf of the poor, whose voices often go unheard. [Rule 7.1-9.9]
